Teething is one of the first big milestones for San Antonio babies – and one of the toughest on parents! Knowing what’s normal and how to help can make everyone’s life easier.
Typical Teething Schedule
- 4–10 months: Lower central incisors (the two bottom front teeth)
- 8–12 months: Upper central incisors
- 9–16 months: Upper and lower lateral incisors
- 13–19 months: First molars
- 16–23 months: Canines
- 23–33 months: Second molars
Every child is different – some sprout teeth at 3 months, others not until after their first birthday. Late teeth are usually no cause for concern!
Safe & Effective Relief Tips from Dr. Torres
- Chilled (Not Frozen) Teethers – Pop a silicone teether in the fridge for 20 minutes. Cold numbs sore gums without risking injury.
- Clean Finger Massage – Wash your hands and gently rub your baby’s gums for instant relief.
- Fresh Fruit Mesh Feeders – Fill with chilled watermelon or banana. The mesh protects against choking while letting flavor soothe gums.
- Cold Washcloth Trick – Wet a clean washcloth, wring it out, and let baby chew. Bonus: it’s free and easy to replace!
- Distraction Walks – When nothing else works, a stroll through Brackenridge Park or the San Antonio Zoo can work wonders.
